Meet the Doulas
Proudly serving the Upper Valley
Mary Etna Haac, MPH, PhD, CD(DONA), ICEA

Mary Etna currently offers childbirth preparation classes, and breastfeeding support.
Thank you for visiting LifeTree Birth Care! I, Mary Etna, am passionate about all things relating to women's health, life, nature, and science. Yes, it is a very broad scope of passion, but that makes it all the more fascinating to me! Childbirth encompasses all of these things. It is an absolutely amazing natural process that interconnects physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our human nature. I love educating and empowering birthing people and their families to trust their instincts, and assume an active role in their health (both physical and emotional), as well as their own unique passage into parenthood. This is what drove me to found LifeTree Birth Care in 2015.
I began my doula career in 2013, while living in Blacksburg, VA. I currently live in Sharon, Vermont and work with families throughout the Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire. I completed my doula training and certification through DONA-International , and am a registered Hypnobabies Hypno-doula. I am also an ICEA-certified Childbirth Educator, Evidence Based Birth® Instructor, Breastfeeding Specialist, and Health Educator.
In addition, I have a master's degree in public health (MPH), specializing in global health promotion/education. As an experienced health educator, I have previously worked with diverse populations in a wide-array of health topics including, but not limited to: reproductive health, maternal and child health, adolescent health, chronic disease, and youth advocacy. As a PhD biologist and trained researcher, I am also highly knowledgeable about the natural, physiological processes at work during pregnancy and childbirth, and do my best to maintain up-to-date information about research, evidence-based techniques and best practices for the support of pregnant and laboring women.
I am a native speaker of both English and Spanish, and am happy to offer support in either language. Having lived and worked overseas, I have experienced a variety of cultural settings and am happy to work with each family's individual needs and beliefs. I also have experience working with survivors of trauma. I welcome the opportunity to work with your individual needs and preferences.

Kathy Wohlfort, MS, CD(DONA), HCHD

Kathy currently offers birth doula care, and bereavement support
I am a practicing birth doula and believe that all birthing people and their partners should have the care they want during their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period. As your doula, I will help you identify the type of support you want, from educational resources to physical comfort measures during labor. I will protect the space and time you need to make medical decisions that are right for you and will support decisions you choose. Empowering you is the core of my practice.
I entered doula work after extensive time working in wildlife and conservation biology. My passions for the environment, wildlife, sustainability, and following my intuition were instrumental in my early years after college when I was a wilderness instructor for privileged and at-risk youth. Afterwards, I spent over 25 years as a wildlife biologist in Vermont and New Hampshire, specializing in peregrine falcons, bald eagles, and loons. Along the way, I earned my master’s degree in conservation biology from Antioch University, spending a semester studying in Costa Rica. These seemingly separate work histories meld together to make being a doula a logical next career for me: I support others on their intuitive journey during their childbearing year, no matter what happens along the way. This is an honor and a privilege.
I enjoy involving partners during labor, facilitating everyone’s understanding of the options at hand, and supporting women in the manner that they desire. In addition to my DONA training, I gained invaluable insight and mentors after attending a two-week doula internship at a Utah midwifery center. I also participated in volunteer training programs at WISE of the Upper Valley, attended a workshop by Spinning Babies, and completed trainings/hold certifications as a Hypnobabies Hypno-doula, Holding Space for Pregnancy Loss, and Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness advocacy.
Having lived, attended school, and conducted research outside of the United States, I enjoy learning and incorporating your experiences, traditions, and cultures into your birth experience. I have experience being a doula for trauma survivors, same sex couples, international couples, and interracial couples.
I live in Lyme, NH with my husband, cat, bee hives and expansive gardens. I also take Irish step dancing and love just about anything that involves swimming in New England’s waters.
